I HAVE TO AGREE WITH PREVIOUS REVIEW

We have gone to Il Classico since it started and have always found the standard and quality of food to be excellent along with the decor and table settings. When it reopened we decided to go back with a large party of friends. The food and decor was as usual impeccable, but the service left a lot to be desired and one member of staf in particular has an inappropriate attitude.

We elected that maybe it was a busy night so returned a few weeks later only to discover that the 'bad service' was evidently not for just one night. I would like to go back as the food is delicious and the cost not prohibitive, but something needs to be done about the service.

I have put I would recommend but that is for the food and ambience.

Why?

I really don’t know why we haven’t been here before – we’ve passed by it, we’ve read the reviews and we’ve thought about booking but never quite made it. What a pity as it’s gone straight in to being one of our top two restaurants in Paphos! It looks good from outside (if tucked away in a ‘side’ street) and is even more attractive inside. Even the sea view is better than you might expect given where it is. Service was excellent - friendly but not pushy and the food was outstanding. The home made Italian bread with an oil & balsamic dipping bowl was so good I had two rolls! As starters we had the beef Carpaccio – a very good size portion, beautifully presented on very thin Italian ‘music paper’ bread with balsamic oil reduction & rocket and Spaghetti Matriciana (pancetta, tomatoes, shallots) which was, again, a large portion beautifully cooked & presented. It’s worth noting that all the pasta is made on the premises. For our main courses my wife chose the ‘special’ – the crusted sea bass with saffron artichokes. The fish was cooked to perfection & very well presented. I had the fillet of beef with bone marrow, on spinach, & we shared some grilled vegetables & small roasted potatoes with rosemary. Neither dish could be faulted in any way.For dessert we chose the strawberry balsamic tiramisu and the lemon tart with strawberry ice cream (an unusual mix but it worked). Both of them were excellent – the lemon tart was particularly light and refreshing. There were only about four other tables taken the night we were there but the ambience – low lighting, well spaced tables, Italian background music etc was very pleasant. The owner introduced herself to all the diners and her young daughter played a few pieces, very pleasantly, on the piano.Price wise the restaurant represents very good value indeed for fine dining and even better value when you compare it to much lower quality, high priced restaurants in & around Kato Paphos. The wine is a little expensive but there is no pressure to order it and we noticed that other diners even took their unfinished bottles home with them. They’ve apparently just started serving Sunday lunches (with a special of suckling pig) and are changing their evening menu to a summer version next week. We will be going again!

Il Classico Italian

We are regular visitors to Paphos and have been coming to Il Classico for several years, from when it first opened as a French fine dining restaurant to its latest incarnation as a relaxed Italian bistro without losing its fine dining heritage and we have never been disappointed. Why do we keep going back? Very simply, we have a genuine love of good food and until we found Il Classico, we had always been disappointed with what was on offer in Paphos, from the fixed price fresh from the freezer menus in the tourist areas to the overpriced menus offered by the 5 star hotels which consistently failed to meet our expectations in terms of creativity and quality. Well, thank you to this Pahos-Eating site which enabled us quality-starved foodies to find Il Classico in the first place when it was French fine dining and a very firm favourite as a place for a special occasion or celebration. In those days, it was admittedly very expensive but the food was so good, we didn't mind paying extra as we were so pleased to have found such a culinary oasis. Now, in a recession and whilst other restaurants stagnate or close, Il Classico made the very wise decision to relaunch as an Italian Bistro which enabled it to offer much lower prices but without sacrificing quality. The restaurant itself is located on a hill with charming and romantic sunset views. The welcome is warm and genuine whether from the owner or the lovely staff and the tables are sufficiently spaced to enjoy a relaxed and intimate atmosphere with the option to eat outside if preferred. The Italian chefs are passionate about what they do, from sourcing the fresh ingredients themselves or popping out of the kitchen to chat with the diners. The menu itself is an absolute delight with the food being of the quality one would expect to find in a Michelin starred restaurant in London. Standards are high and consistent and the new prices offer extraordinary value, including the wine list which is honestly priced whether for traditional Italian or for some truly exceptional locally produced wines. For us, the holiday is not only about relaxing - it's also about good food but finding those establishments which offer quality and affordable value (without being pretentious) has become increasingly difficult. Il Classico is one of those rare restaurants which ticks all of the boxes and adds to a wonderful holiday, whether for a special occasion or a relaxed and enjoyable evening and the best thing of all, without breaking the bank.

Italian Dining

A beautiful restaurant for that special occasion. Wonderful food.On arrival my first thoughts were WOW am I underdressed for such an exquisite
restaurant. I was quickly put at ease by the staff who were very attentive. We were given complimentary canapes to start. The Decor and ambience were second to none. The food was all excellent, when we first went it was in the summer and it was very busy. We took some dear friends on the next visit and they loved it as much as we did. A bit on the expensive side for drinks, but I have eaten in London and this is on par. My friends like to drink so it cost us over 250 euro for the four of us. Well worth it but not a restaurant you could visit on a weekly basis. Great for the holiday makers who want to dine in style. Well worth a visit.
