Always a pleasure to eat here

I'm always nervous if a restaurant changes hands but Julie and Dave have continued the warmth and friendliness we associated with The Vineyard. The menu has altered but not drastically and the addition of a fixed price 3 course meal with choices for each course is a bonus. We hope The Vineyard does well and thrives because it is such a pleasant place and the food is always good.

Friendliest restaurant in Paphos

Julie and Dave have taken this restaurant over from Debbie and Charles so the continuity is there to make this the friendliest restaurant in the area.

We had dinner there last Friday night and the Tempura Prawns continue to be excellent as were the Baked Cod and the Salmon fillet. A thoroughly enjoyable dinner at a very reasonable price - outstanding value.

Nothing is too much for Julie and she's a wonderful host. She, Dave and their chef, Elle, deserve to succeed. Watch out for Saturday music nights - they're great.

A great night

I'm amazed that this restaurant hasn't received more reviews on this site yet as, without doubt, this would win the "friendliest' tavern in the entire Paphos area! Debbie, Derek & Julie are delightful people who cannot do enough to make your visit enjoyable.

Friday night is music night here and last night was brilliant. Rafael is a really good singer (watch out for him on this years UK X Factor) who has everyone dancing, singing along & enjoying themselves from 8.30 to 11.30.

Dinner here is really good as well - last night we had the Garlic Mushrooms & the Tempura Prawns followed by the Chicken breast in a blue cheese sauce and the Sea Bream - delicious. Dessert was a dark chocolate cheesecake.

A lovely warm evening in the courtyard with a cold bottle of Prosecco, delicious food, brilliant entertainment & lovely people.

A little gem

At last got around to visiting the Vineyard after having read so many good reports about it and I'm very glad we did - what a little gem. In fact I almost don't want to review it in case too many people go there but that would be most unfair to the owners, Charles & Debbie. Debbie is front of house & Charles is the chef & what a great team they make. Debbie (& Julie) make you feel very welcome as soon as you arrive and give the place an excellent atmosphere in the little courtyard.

It is in fact more of a Bistro with a Cypriot flavour than a taverna, with typical Cypriot dishes like Halloumi with carob sauce, Moussaka, kebabs & pork chops etc but they also had specials of Sea Bream and Tempura Prawns.

We had the Calamari and Tempura Prawns (both with a dip) to start followed by the Sea Bream and the Fillet of fish both of which came in a lemon & garlic sauce though you could change that if required, and a beautifully fresh, diced cucumber & tomato salad. Quite frankly you could not fault them in any way and the outstanding 'real' chips ruined my self imposed carb free diet they were that good! We were too full to attempt any of their desserts but received a very light milk chocolate pot with a frothy top to finish which was perfect.

A bottle of Tsangerides Rose Shiraz and a large bottle of water came with a little bucket of ice for those who like it in their drinks - a simple but thoughtful touch.

Charles came round to talk to his customers later, which is always the sign of a good chef, and was genuinely pleased that WE were pleased.

We've eaten and reviewed over 100 restaurants now and this has gone straight into a 'favourite' top five. This is a restaurant that thoroughly deserves to succeed when so many Paphos restaurants are failing. Good food, lovely service and excellent value - what more could you ask for.

We will be eating there again VERY shortly.

Vineyard Taverna - good honest cooking

Being rather fussy, we were delighted to see so many good reviews for the Vineyard Taverna on Trip Advisor as a potential new restaurant to add to our list of favourites and we weren't disappointed. It's an approximate 20 minute drive from Paphos but don't let this put you off as it's a beautifully scenic route and it's also on the way to Tsangerides Winery in Lemona (another not to be missed venue) so you could combine the two for a lovely trip. Debbie and Charles opened the Vineyard Taverna about 8 months ago - an incredibly brave thing to do in a recession, not to mention being slightly off the beaten track but when you have a winning formula such as this, there's certainly no cause for concern and the restaurant seems to be incredibly popular. We decided to go on Christmas Eve and called ahead to make a reservation. Charles explained that he makes everything fresh so we shouldn't be surprised if some things were off the menu as he was trying to wind down his stock immediately before Christmas. How lovely is that - such a nice change from the multitude of other restaurants who consider reheating from frozen to be perfectly acceptable. As it happens, pretty much everything was available so we had a great choice. The restaurant is set in the middle of the picturesque and traditional village of Letymbou, opposite the local garage which is a house with a couple of what look like 1950's petrol pumps outside - very quaint and charming, being evocative of what Cyprus used to be like before it was concreted over. Inside, the restaurant isn't huge with approximately 8 or 9 tables so do book in advance as this place is likely to be busy every night, particularly as word spreads as to to how good it is. We received a lovely and genuine welcome from Debbie and also her mum and dad who were helping over the festive season so the staff could have a break and they're a truly delightful family. Nothing was too much trouble for Debbie and she went from table to table making sure everyone was ok or just to have a chat, whatever the customer preferred and without being obtrusive, an art form in itself. The menu is the right size - not too big in so far as it's manageable for a chef who prefers to deliver quality rather than quantity. For starters, we had Calamari and Halloumi with Carob sauce - delicious. For mains, we had King Prawns with a creamy garlic sauce and one of Charles's home made burgers - superb. The desserts were lovely too - a Mars Bar chocolate cake which surprised us as we weren't expecting it to be as good as it was and also a superb little glass of Baileys covering white and dark chocolate. We also had a bottle of wine from Tsangerides - Debbie believes in supporting local businesses and as it happens, this is our favourite winery so we were in heaven! I said the best point about this place was the whole package and it genuinely is - a charming couple who have managed to get it right in every respect and yes, we now have a new restaurant on our list of favourites. We will certainly be going back.
