Our first poor take-away

This is one of our local taverna's and we have ALWAYS had superb Suckling Pig from there, it is a brilliant place to have a meal.
But, we got a take away from there yesterday and were very disappointed to have a portion of dry, reheated Suckling Pig with soggy skin (not crackling).
We have had take aways from there on past occasions and they have always been good. In fact I have reviewed this place in the past and praised it highly.
Just shows that even the best place can occasionally let you down.
It was an occasion that the owner was not there, so this may have been the cause for the

a warm night here!

This is a small informal eatery, right on the Coral Bay road, between Chlorakas and Kissonerga. In winter they have a big wooden fire in the centre of the restaurant, but beware when they take the "fire" on a shovel into the kitchen - forget any health & safety, you're in Cyprus. Their speciality is Suckling Pig, and they do it well. All their food is freshly cooked and basic but good and they do it all as a take away just phone and collect, but you may have to have a drink on the house while you wait a few minutes (Cyprus time). We went last night and had suckling pig and a lovely thick fillet garlic steak, both well cooked, even though the steak said it was hot it wasn't (spicy). The bill was €34, with a couple of beers, the next table had a meze and that looked to be a big one with lots of variety. The only drawback for me is that they have a big screen TV, very incongruous, in the corner of the place. The owner is a football fanatic and sometimes the local kids and friends are in watching a game, but if the tables are needed for customers they have to go home, it isn't a problem they understand the rules. The owner's brother is Mario who has Kings Aphrodite's on the Tomb of the Kings road.

Conservatory Food !

On the way back from the carnival parade we stopped here after driving by for literally years. Opted for something relatively quick so pork souvlakia & chips with some pitta and dips to nibble. Food was freshly cooked and the portion were rather large. Meat was chunky and juicy - very enjoyable. Chips and side order vegetables were of the fresh variety. Add to that a couple of drinks and at €13 a head was excellent value. The owner is keen to help out with amusing the kid on occasion and getting a highchair. There was a large open fire roaring away in the middle of the "room" (its like sitting inside a conservatory than a restaurant) which kept it nice and toasty, and there was a steady stream of customers whilst we were there. Would go ago for something casual and without stressing about the kid :)

Meze at the road side?

The location of this meze house, so close to the road that you worry traffic may join you at the table, does not augur well for a good atmosphere, but the meze is good, the cocktails exotic and the regular specialities of the house include suckling pig and kleftiko.

The staff are friendly and attentive and as mezes go, that served here passes muster. The suckling pig portions looked a little over the top, but silenced fellow diners as they gorged, which must be a good sign? ;)
