A Marvellous Restaurant

Our first visit to Palia Ilektriki on a cold, windy evening was a delight. The welcome, service and food was perfect. Our breast of duck was served sliced in a delicious sauce which did not overwhelm with it's orange and pomegranate flavouring. The duck was thickly sliced, tender, juicy and delicious. It was beautifully presented with broccoli, beans, carrots, cauliflower, a small tower of rice and roast potatoes. For desert we had spiced orange cake and a banana cake served with ice cream. This was delightful food produced with care that looked and tasted superb. The slightly lower rating for atmosphere was simply due to the restaurant being almost empty. We are looking forward to returning particularly in warm weather and outside seating.

Lovely Lunch

After recently hearing good things about this restaurant from different people we went for lunch and it was lovely. I was surprised by the pleasant outdoor setting and nice welcome, though it was very quiet that day, only one other table occupied. I had a choose-your-own-filling sandwich which was lovely, and served with chips and salad for only 5 euros, my companion had breaded sea bream which even he (hard to please) enjoyed. We both had orange cake with caramel sauce and ice cream for dessert, very scrummy and a very reasonable price compared to many other places. My only regret is not finding this sooner as we would like to try an evening, but it needs to be still warm enough to sit outside really, as the inside looked very small. However, there's always next year for evenings and I'm sure we'll try a couple more lunches this year, there's lots more on the menu to sample and it really is very good value.

Found it!

Well, well, well - we'd never heard of this restaurant until very recently so decided to try it last night. It's tucked away in a pleasant courtyard (with a modern fountain) only 50 yards away from the main taxi rank in the centre of Ktima Paphos. It's off a small, one way street, running parallel (north of) the main shopping road which has the Kiniras hotel in it. To all intents and purposes it is only 'outside' eating (under parasols) as there appeared to be very little room inside for tables.

It seems to be part of/linked to, the small Cultural/Conference centre next door and is named after the original Paphos electricity generator which is displayed there. The tables & chairs are rather basic but the menu is reasonably extensive. We hadn't booked but the waitress was very friendly and soon found us a table. There were about 15 or so other diners whilst we were there.

We decided to stick with Cypriot dishes but hear that the rack of lamb, the steaks and a number of other dishes are very good too.

Following excellent complementay hot pittas and bread with olives, coleslaw and tzatziki we started with the fish soup with croutons which had a lovely flavour but was a little watery and the avocado, mint and yoghourt (cold) soup which again was a bit 'thin' though both were pleasant enough.

We followed these with Moussaka with a village salad and the Chicken Souvlaki which came with salad, rice and potato wedgies. Both were excellent and plentiful. For dessert we had the Creme Brulee and the trio of ice cream - the brulee was particularly good.

The bill was Euros 50 including a gin & tonic and a large bottle of water which we thought was very good for three courses which were all very well presented and cooked.

Access was good though the toilets are downstairs which may give some people problems.

In my opinion it's nowhere near being 'one of the best restaurants in Paphos' but it's well worth trying and we shall certainly go there again.

One of the best restaurants in Paphos

Fabulous unusual venue with a lovely ambience and very welcoming hosts. The quality of food is fantastic especially the beef and lamb. Drinks prices are reasonable especially on local wines and given the standard of the restaurant. Never fails to please.... Yum!!

Excellent value for very good quality dining

Friends invited us here for a meal , a restaurant that we had not heard of before. The decor and music was light and welcoming and we were greeted at the door by the chef ,which to me ,was a good sign. I started with the fish soup, which was so full of flavour, and followed by the sea bass. The sea bass was beautiful, perfectly cooked ,moist and on a bed of delicious vegetables. My wife enjoyed the herb crusted rack of lamb, which she ordered with apprehension as it is very rare that you get good quality lamb . She had no need to worry , beautifully tender , good sauce and the plate was duly finished. Desserts were the the orange cake, light and moist and I had th creme brûlée to die for.
Altogether a beautiful evening and the bill - 115€ for the four with wine and other drinks and for 3 courses ,excelllent value for money .we shall certainly revisit and it is well worth the effort in finding
