local food with an urban view

Managed by the very affable Vakis, who explained to me that the family business (his mother still works in kitchen) has been here over 15 years, he tells me that they serve traditional home food familiar to their regular Cypriot clients, as well as the more well known dishes that new visitors may already know. The grill meats are all cooked from freshly prepared meats (the neck used for Pork souvlaki), with chicken breast cubed, and lamb chops all cooked over the wood charcoal grill in the kitchen, and recently they have also expanded the menu to include fresh fish.

However with all that in mind, something in the kitchen caught my eye, and I opted for the lamb & spinach stew (€12). Having not had it for years I`d forgotten what to expect, and the meat was a delight, full of taste from the tomatoe, falling from the bone, melting in the mouth alongside the liberal helping of spinach. A great dish, although a touch too much salt for my tongue in this case. Also served as an inclusive 'starters', was grilled pitta with oilve oil, oregano and (again) salt, potatoe coriander salad and a simple salad mix of local fresh vegetables.

The venue is in an elevated position, and whilst nothing 'special' in many ways, is clean, and well run with polite and attentive staff on hand. The seating outside gives a great view out over Kato Paphos, but, the highlight for me was the food, from what I sampled was very well prepared, and fantastic value, I would happily re-visit this venue when 'going local' whilst in this area.

Wrong Choice

There are plenty of places to eat up in the market area, I made the wrong choice. Just went in for a cold drink and a toasted sandwich whilst shopping last week. My friends order came out wrong (not sure how toasted cheese & tomato could be confused with tuna maynonnaise !), but it wasn't like a toastie, it was more of a long bap burnt. Not cheap either, was about Euro's 15 for 2 toasties and 2 soft drinks.
