Great Sunday Lunch

We were rather taken aback by a previous review of the Hotel particularly as the diners were eating on a Daily Deal which meant their four course meal cost only €7 per head and they marked it as poor value for money. We have eaten at the hotel on numerous occasions and have given feedback every time where we thought the hotel might be lacking. Today the hotel was absolutely packed and it was well managed and organised, warm and welcoming. The lunch was delightful - vegetable soup followed by an impressive salad bar where the pomegranate, rocket and sundried tomato salad was one of the best I have ever tasted, then the hot selection with a stifado so good that I never made it to the roast lamb and pork or the sweet selection. This is not a traditional English carvery but then this is a traditional Cypriot Hotel in a traditional Cypriot village which is manned by local staff who aim to please at all times.

Worst Sunday Lunch We've Ever Experienced

Droushia Heights Hotel have recently promoted their Sunday Carvery through Daily Deals and we were enticed with the discount offered. The building and interiors are very nice indeed looking fresh and new.

We started our lunch with vegetable soup which was very pleasant and then onto the carvery. The meats offered were pork and lamb but no beef. I had both meats and the amount offered was far less than other popular carvery venues in the area. The lamb was at the end of the joint and the carver had to tear pieces off rather than slice them. Mint and apples sauces were available but the gravy had run out. On the buffet the only vegetables available were ladyfingers in a tomato and onion sauce and the remains of some broccoli. The potatoes had run out (at approximately 2pm). We awaited more potatoes and a few arrived, we also took some chicken. Back at the table I discovered the lamb was extremely dry so I returned to the carvery to where more gravy had appeared. Unfortunately this tasted like something out of a packet and was not pleasant. The pork was rather tasteless but the chicken was good. The late delivered potatoes were simply not cooked and were too hard to even cut properly. All 3 of us had to leave them.

I brought these problems to the attention of the pleasant young waitress but no response was received. I then spoke to the receptionist and eventually the manageress came to our table where the problems were explained. We asked if we wanted something else cooked for us which we declined having eaten what we could of the meal. We moved onto dessert which was a measly selection of a semolina pudding, a banana, pineapple and artificial cream creation, small dry cakes and fruit. Apart from the fruit these were deemed poor. We were offered coffee which was the highlight of this very poor meal.

Fortunately and wisely the Manageress agreed that no further payment was due from us and we left this pleasant building shocked at how poor the food was. I can only suggest the manageress and chef do some research at other local venues offering similar product, to discover exactly what a good carvery should offer.
