Don't Miss Salty's it really is a Gem

It is quite easy to miss Saltys, as it is tucked away on the top floor of a parade of shops between the Helios and Azia hotels.

Please, please spend time looking this restaurant out, as I am not exaggerating when I say that the food we had last night was in the top five of meals that we have had anywhere in the world.

Initial impressions are of a relatively small immaculately clean and very charactarful restaurant.

We turned up on spec on a rainy halloween night so blinds/shutters were closed and we could not appreciate the magnificent view that Salty's must have.

The wine list was mainly composed of new world wines but we plumped for a local house white which at 11 euros a bottle was not only great value it was also as close to a good sauvignon blanc as you can get at half the price.

The starters were all priced between 3 and 6 euros we had chowder, squid, Thai fish cakes and Roquefort mushrooms, all were not only freshley cooked they were also immaculately presented and tasted amazing.

Mains (between 10ish and 19ish euros) were a perfectly cooked rib eye steak with onions and potato and pepercorn sauce, salmon with a celery sauce on a bed of potato and chicken breast which I had, it was cooked with cheese, pesto, asparagus, potato, onion and was smothered with a wine sauce which was amazing. Our 7 year old who can be a bit fussy was cooked a special dish of pasta with cheese and ham. All were freshley prepared and perfectly presented by the chef who we could see cooking our food in the immaculate kitchen.

We could not manage sweets as we were full (they did look lovely though), we also had nibbles on the house between courses and my perfect espresso at the end was on the house.

The service was intimate without being over fussy.

We were so impressed that seven of us booked to go again on our last day in Cyprus next week (a bit of a ritual gift presented to the best Restaurant of our holiday).

Every dish was unique and memorable and made a change from the unchanging conveyor belt of meze that we usually consume when we are over here.

I really cannot recommend Salty's highly enough it is a top class gem that we will be visiting again and again.

An unexpected pleasure

My wife and I had dinner here last night. We`ve passed by Salty`s many times but frankly the name had rather put us off. We were wrong! Salty`s has a laid back ambience with a relatively small, but excellent, menu - we were spoilt for choice.

I`m extremely allergic to seeds and they immediately offered replacement cheese bread for the multi seed bread initially offered. The `house` white wine was very good indeed.

We started with the `squiddly diddly` (beautiful, soft, fried squid coated in bread crumbs) and the Thai fishcakes and then both had fillet steaks with horseradish mash, spinach and a jus. They were both cooked perfectly (one medium and one blue). One caramelised lime tart and an amaretto coffee to finish rounded off an excellent meal. The restaurant specialises in fish and we could easily have been tempted by the tuna, king prawns or the grouper etc on the menu.

It poured with rain throughout the evening so we obviously sat inside but the room was very pleasant indeed. The owner, Sally and Jo, who served us, were both very friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

We will definitely visit again.

Lovely night, great food!

My partner and l ate at Salty's last night. Very relaxed ambience, friendly staff and very good food. Mainly seafood, but the other half opted for rib eye steak, which he said was spot on, while l had red mullet risotto with roasted langoustine. Yum!! Was nice to find a new place with no pretention to service. Will be back and recommend it to others.

Salties - Worth a Visit

Pleasantly surprised when we visited as we had thought it was going to be a typical tourist restaurant, but first impression, the staff were very friendly. Good. Menu did seem limited but the food was certainly well prepared and very tasty. The wine list featured a very large selection of imported wines, with some local inputs as well. The wine selection was superb and reasonably priced. Well worth a repeat visit.
