Love love love it!

This is a very up market restaurant with beautiful décor. We have eaten here twice and absolutely loved it. I had mussels and my partner had the steak. The mussels were huge and very nicely cooked. The steak was enormous and cooked to perfection, medium rare. I think the mussels were about €16 and the steak €24 but it was a 500g steak!

I love the atmosphere in this restaurant and they have a lovely garden area to dine in. The service was faultless too.

tried once, went twice and will go again

I do enjoy it here, informal & relaxed atmosphere with food I don’t get anywhere else. I opted for a large piri chicken dish this time, it was two whole chicken breast marinated in secret mix (€17). Tasted great, but very large portion, fellow guests opted for a African Meze (€20/pp). Washed down with a beer or three (€3/pint) and water (€2.50/large) and some potatoe salad. Still a great place.

The Lodge

As residents of Peyia, we had heard some good and not so good reports about the Lodge, we decided it was time we tried it for ourselves. My partner and I went on Saturday last. I ordered the Moules mariniere starter, which was very good. We both ordered 400g rib eye steaks and we both asked for them to be medium rare, noticing that on the menu, it stated that if you order your steak medium to well done, it will take 25 minutes to cook and may not be as tender as less cooked steak. 40 minutes after my starter, our steaks arrived. My partners steak was cooked as she ordered, mine however was blue, very tough and with little flavor. When my partner cut into her steak, there was juices coming from the steak. I tried a piece of hers and she tried a piece of mine, and the two steaks were totally different.

I didn't eat very much of mine, and I would have mentioned it to one of the staff, but then my partner would have had to eat hers whilst they cooked mine as it should have been.

When a waiter took away our plates, I did point out to him that my steak was not cooked how it was ordered and was tough. His reply was that "rib eye steaks can be tough!". he also offered a lame excuse that the restaurant was very busy, which is no excuse at all. Later a lady member of staff came and spoke to us. She was very apologetic, offered to cook another steak, which I politely declined, and she did not charge for my steak. I was not looking for a reduction in the bill, I just wanted to point out, as an observation, rather than a complaint, that I was not happy with the steak. I always feel that if you go to a restaurant, and there is a problem, it should be pointed out so that the restaurant can deal with it and hopefully avoid future problems. I will say that the lady member of staff, who may have been the Manageress, dealt with this issue very politely and it would not put us off going again, however we won't order the peppercorn sauce with the steaks which was quite unpleasant.

An alternative sunday lunch

Visited the lodge for a sunday lunch time meal. Nice quiet atmosphere. Pleasant staff who saw to us promptly. It was our second visit to the restaurant so we knew what we wanted and it came in the time specified. All good all tasty, large enough portions. We had starter mains and a shared desert. Washed it down with house lager. Slightly disappointed that there were no south african deserts available on this visit, but told this was to change. Happy to go there again and to recommend to others.

Christmas lunch

We had Christmas lunch there yesterday. Thy arranged for someone to pick us up from Kouklia as we were concerned about the drink driving. The room was nicely decorated and there were crackers on the table. We had eggnog as a welcome drink. Then we all had the white wine which was like paint stripper 3 of us swapped to red which was fine and the other put soda in and it was ok. We had a platter of stuffed mushrooms and liver pate served with deep fried pitta All very nice especially the deep fried pitta. Then a big wooden platter arrived with roast beef and what was described a deep fried turkey but it was just normal turkey. A big bowl of roasties and roast garlic arrived next with monkey gland sauce (very good) then there was a lull in service and thought strange no veg But a big bowl of str fried geens arrived and a seafood and chicken rice dish. We wre told to ask for anything more if we wanted it but there was plenty there and it was all very good and tasty Apart from a bowl of a strange orange gravy. Then there was a choice of about 6 deserts I had the brownies which were very good. It came to about E40 per head and we all thought it very good value for money And I will certainly go back to try the ala carte menu
