Nowhere near as good as 2010 visit

It’s one of those “fur coat and no knickers” places that really ought to be much better than it proved to be. The problem is in the kitchen, not with the front of house staff who are, generally, very much on the ball. It meant that delivery of food was slow – it wasn’t just a problem with our orders, there would be times when nothing came out of the kitchen for ages and then loads would be ready. Perhaps chef was going off on a cigarette break?

There was a scallop dish to start. Three scallops, served on the half shell. Each with and individual sauce – pesto, tomato and a third completely indeterminate. All of the scallops completely overcooked. The other starter saw courgettes, hollowed out and filled with a tomato/onion mix. They were then topped with parmesan, baked and served with a good tomato sauce.

Steak isn’t something I eat very often in restaurants – maybe a couple of times a year. Well, this was one of them. It was tasty meat, cooked the very rare side of “medium rare”, but not such that I needed to send it back. It came with what was described as a “wild mushroom” sauce which was fine, although the mushrooms looked for all the world like bog standard button mushrooms. There was fried potato and mixed veg to accompany. Penne al la Norma is a classic dish and there were no complaints about it – aubergine was well cooked, tomato sauce was spiked with a little chilli and oregano.

Desserts were disappointing. Apple cake and ice cream managed to combine insipid ice cream with a cake that tasted little of apple (in fact, tasted of little of anything). As often the case, tiramisu was overly sweet with none of the oomph a well made one would have from espresso and booze.

Overpriced, Rude Staff and average food

A lovely looking Restaurant, sadly the food, service and price let it down.
As an Italian Restaurant, the Pizza was small, soggy and flavourless, the cooked fish was overdone. However the Wine was lovely.

not good value for money !!

1. The Wine was served at the wrong temperature way way warmer than it should have been .

2. Pricey starters that were pre-cooked and reheated . How can you chatge 12 euros for 2 slices of courgette????

3. Main courses ok. Nothing special to deserve the price .

4. Service was good . The only good thing about the night.

The 2 of us paid 80 euro . I d rather had spent half of that for a good meze. Its not worth it . I would not recomend it.

Best Italian in Paphos

We have been to this restaurant many times. It's in a prime location, right on the seafront.

The food is mouthwateringly amazing and there is a huge selection of wine. The Manager, Vasos, being an award winning sommelier, can help you choose your wines or champagne.

The garlic prawns to start with are wonderful, as is the gnocci alla romana. For main, the spaghetti with cherry tomatoes and lobster is to die for. The steaks here are also excellent and done to your liking perfectly.

The staff are extremely attentive and cheerful.

It's difficult to fault this restaurant.

Definitely recommend this restaurant.

Excellent

Prime location. A menu which touches base with many of the classic dishes of Northern Italy. An extensive wine list. Clearly a restaurant with aspirations and with prices to match.

Gnocchi alla Piedmontese was bang on in terms of portion size for someone who had come with a healthy appetite. I liked the texture of the dumplings but their firmness possibly suggested they had been bought in, rather than made freshly in-house - although the chef may just have a heavy hand. The sauce was a rich cream one enhanced by fried mushrooms - advertised as “wild” but looking entirely “tame” supermarket portabellas.

Sea bream was the other main. A generous serving of fried fillets sat on a selection of roasted veg - cauliflower, carrot and broccoli. In turn the fish was topped with deep fried and very crispy slivers of courgette. A white wine sauce brought it all together. This was a dish not to linger over as the veg soon lost their crispiness in the sauce. But a complete success.

Desserts brought a raspberry semifreddo - cold, rich and fruity. And an apple cake - very light and almost the texture of a muffin, served with thin slices of apple and vanilla ice cream. Excellent.

Service had been fairly formal and faultless. Price was €80 - not cheap, but reasonable value, which included three glasses of wine, bottle of water and soft drink. As with many other places, the menu clearly indicates service is included in the price. Good for them.

After this really nice meal, we walked back to our apartment via “Bar Street”, where the predominant smell was human urine. Paphos - a place of contrasts, eh?
