Lovely meal

Went here with my partner, his daughter and her fiance. We ordered starters, a main and a bottle of wine. They didn't have the wine we wanted so the waitress suggested another of the same price which was very nice. However she was a little clumsy and knocked over a glass of wine and then moved it to one side and suggested that it shouldn't have been there! She then came back 3 times to see if we wanted another bottle of wine before we had even finished the first. The food was excellent though. 2 of us had sea bass in black bean sauce and sushi and the men had yakitori chicken and beef teriyaki with spring rolls and duck as a starter. The bill came to €89 as we had 20% discount for eating before 7.

We knew is wasnt a cheap place but it was well worth it. Not familar with Japenese food, so asked Dimi for help, he suggested a Meze style, so we had 2 rounds of mixtures, beautufilly presented and teased great, but als explained so we know what we like for next time. Then a salmon main with awesome noodle and rice. Overalll exceppent

Enjoyable, especially for a special occasion

With the demise of SushiMania we decided to visit Sakura for achange as we had a desire for Sushi.

The restaurant is beautiful and the staff is very helpful and extremely friendly. We ordered a variety of sushi and sashimi that to be honest were excellent. We always enjoy some of the crunchy japanese seaweed salad with our sushi, but I wish I had checked the price list before ordering it as it turned out to cost 12Euro a portion and the portion was a small cup with the normal peanut style dip.
I also ordered some tempura prawns and some other small dishes. We did not really do the starter/main/dessert type thing, but just ordered about 6 different plates (ex the salads) of items. As drinks there was 1 glass of red wine (I was the driver), 3 vermouth (martini) and a bottle of sparkling water. Still not sure how people can charge 4 euro for a 3.5cl of martini (thats 120 euro for a litre, while a 1 litre/100CL bottle is 6.55 in my local Kiosk), but then that seems to be everywhere in paphos and 2 green Tea.
The total bill came to 113 euro. A bit expensive, but if we had avoided the seaweed salad (24 euro in total) and the martinis, I would have said it was reasonable value and definitely worth it.
It is nice place to go for a special occasion. Will try the Teppanyaki next time I visit.

a mixed, but high end, bag

We took an early sitting so much so that only a few other customers in the venue during our stay. We aren't Japanese experts so just took it as it came so to speak, starting with a selection of Sashimi (€15) and a Dragon Maki (€10) we enjoyed these very much, also had served a Kofta (€3.50) which was ok for our younger guest, but not something we'd choose again. Next up we had been told good things about Duck Tempura (€5) but whilst we have enjoyed duck in other forms, this we found very tough. An excellent Beef Tenderloin dish (€19) was served with a very sweet (almost sickly) black sauce glazed Cod (€17) which wasn't enjoyed too much. Side orders of rice (€4) and vegetable noodles (€6) were decent and eventually we opted to share a home made sorbet (€5.50) and a coconut panna cotta (€6.50) between us which were good.

As with other eateries in the family, drinks are not 'cheap' in any shape or form, €3.20 for a small bottle of Carlsberg, €5 for a glass of dry white wine, overall i think you'd be looking at circa €40 / head but we ate well - probably (no certainly!) too well. Definitely one for special occasions.

Japanese fine dining.

Four of us had dinner at Gold Sakura, with its beautiful decor, earlier this week. The meal got off to a poor start when one waitress managed to (accidentally) pour the greater part of a bottle of Asahi beer in my friends lap and all over the table! Once we had all moved tables the service improved substantially.

For starters we had a selection, to share between us, of californian rolls, vegetable tempura, ebi prawn tempura and ebi prawn maki - all of which were delicious.

For our main courses we then had a Thai Chicken Curry, Rare Tuna slices, crispy chicken pieces and the large grilled prawns. Three of them were very good, especially the tuna, though the Thai Chicken curry was more like a (fairly poor) chicken casserole! Not at all what I expected but probably my own fault for ordering a Thai dish in a Japanese restaurant!

We then decided to walk down to the harbour for a coffee and waffles as the desserts weren't very inspiring.

Not a bad meal but I can't say we'd be regulars there.
